How To Fix Fortnite Mac
Want to play Fortnite on Mac? The cross-platform battle arena shooter and building game is wildly popular, and it's free to play regardless of what you're gaming on.
Mac gamers may be interested in giving Fortnite a run on their Macs, so let's review how to install and play Fortnite on a Mac, along with discussing Fortnite system requirements for Mac, and some tips for optimal game performance.
How to Download, Install, & Play Fortnite on Mac
Here's how to download, install, and play Fortnite on a Mac:
- Download the Epic Installer from http://fortnite.com/ and go through the installation process, you will need an Epic Games account if you don't already have one
- Launch the Epic Games Launcher app and let Fortnite download, it can take a while depending on your internet connection
- When Fortnite is done downloading, enjoy the game!
Recall that you can pair gaming controllers to the Mac easily, so if you have a Playstation 3 controller or a PS4 controller laying around, you can use those to game with your Mac and Fortnite.
Fortnite System Requirements for Mac
Like most video games, Fortnite runs best on better hardware. According to Epic Games, the following are the system requirements for Mac and Windows – we're showing both because some Mac users may find a bit better performance on the same hardware when playing the game through Windows in Boot Camp.
Recommended Minimum System Requirements:
- Mac that supports Metal API
- Nvidia GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870 equivalent DX11 GPU or better
- 2 GB VRAM
- Core i5-7300U 3.5 GHz CPU or better
- 8 GB RAM
- Windows 7/8/10 64-bit
- MacOS Mojave (10.14.6) or later
- 76GB of disk space to download and install the game
Bare Minimum System Requirements
- Mac that supports Metal API
- Intel HD 4000 on PC or Intel Iris Pro 5200 on Mac
- Core i3-3225 3.3 GHz CPU or better
- 4 GB RAM
- Windows 7/8/10 64-bit + Mac OS Mojave (10.14.6+) or later
- 76GB of disk space to download and install the game
If the system requirement are too high or aggressive for you, you might have better luck just playing on iPhone or iPad, or even an Android phone, Nintendo Switch, PS4, or Xbox One.
If you decide to forgo playing Fortnite on Mac and aim for playing on iPhone or iPad instead, don't forget that you can use Xbox One controller with iPad and iPhone as well as pair a PS4 controller to iOS and iPadOS too, so if you decide to play on a mobile device you can still use a gaming controller if you'd like.
Fortnite Graphics Performance Tips
Obviously the better and beefier the Mac, the better Fortnite will run, that's the case with all games that are graphically complex, and Fornite can be fairly demanding on some Mac hardware.
For best results on any Mac you'll to quit all other open apps and just run Fortnite on its own.
Once the game has launched you might want to venture into the Fortnite graphics settings and adjust various settings to get the game to perform at it's best for your specific hardware.
Often lowering detail, changing frame rate (FPS), and adjust screen resolution down can result in a big boost to performance, but all of that may not be necessary on the latest Mac hardware if it has a dedicated GPU. Mess around with the settings and see what works best for you, and if you enable the FPS monitor you'll be able to measure the impact on graphics changes rather than just estimating performance yourself.
